Why I Started W8V | A Bay Area Dad Hat Brand Story

By Arnold

I'll be real with you. W8V didn't start as a dad hat brand. It started as a streetwear brand. Just a clothing brand I wanted to build because I've always loved the culture, the aesthetic, the whole thing. I wanted to make something people would rock, something that resonated with me first.

But then life did what life does. It humbles you. It refocuses you. It shows you what actually matters.

It Started With My Girls

I started thinking deeper about my life. Like really sitting with it. What matters to me? Who do I love the most? What do I look forward to every single day?

And every single time, the answer was my girls. Not just my wife. My two little girls. Those two changed everything for me.

I started thinking about what I could do for them. What I could build for them. What kind of future I could create. And somewhere in all of that, I realized my priorities had completely shifted. I used to think about myself all the time. What did I want to do? How could I be famous? How could I make it in music, or start a brand that people would actually like?

Don't get me wrong, those dreams weren't wrong. But they were incomplete. Because they were all about me.

Becoming a dad was the most important thing that ever happened to me. And once that hit, I couldn't unsee it.

The Gap I Noticed

So I started looking around. I see Bay Area gear everywhere. Hats, tees, hoodies repping the Bay. That's not hard to find. And I see dad gear too. Generic "World's Best Dad" stuff, you know what I mean.

But Bay Area dad stuff? Like something that says I'm from here and I'm a father and I'm proud of both?

I couldn't find it.

And that's usually the sign, right? When you can't find what you're looking for, maybe you're supposed to be the one who makes it.

Something I'd Actually Wear

That was the standard. Not "will people buy this?" The first question was, would I wear this? Would I be proud to put this on?

Because I'm proud to be from the Bay Area. That's not something I take lightly. This place shaped me. The culture, the music, the grind, the people. All of it. And I'm also proud to be a dad. Those two things don't cancel each other out. They make each other stronger.

Being a dad in the Bay is one of the best things in the world. And yeah, it's also one of the most challenging things in the world. It's expensive out here. It's fast out here. The pressure is real. But the love is real too. The community is real. The pride in where you're from, that's real.

W8V is for the dads who feel all of that. The ones who are grinding for their kids, repping their city, and doing it all without losing who they are.

West of Everything

That's what the brand is. It's not just a hat. It's a reminder of where you're from and who you're doing it for.

If you're a Bay Area dad, this one's for you. I made it because I couldn't find it. And now that it exists, I hope it means something to you the way it means something to me.
